NEWS! The Bend Motorsport to host classic event

The Bend Motorsport Park will host a new classic motorsport event in December 2019, filling the void left by the demise of the Victoria Park Sprint as part of the Adelaide Motorsport Festival (AMF).

The Adelaide Motorsport Festival was forced to downsize and cancel the Victoria Park Sprint due to the loss of government funding.

The Bend Classic is scheduled for the weekend of December 7 to 8, following the template of the Victoria Park Sprint with a focus on keeping the spirit of Formula 1 and other motorsport categories alive in South Australia.

The Bend Motorsport Park officials met with the Adelaide Motorsport Festival organisers with the intention of continuing the growth of motorsport in South Australia with an event for classic cars.

“The AMF has been fantastic for motorsport fans in SA and around the country and it would be a shame to see some of the activities fall away,” said managing director at The Bend Motorsport Park, Sam Shahin.

“It’s been humbling to hear encouragement and calls of support from so many people, who have asked how The Bend Motorsport Park can play a role.

“As a result we are opening Registrations of Interest for drivers and categories who want to participate in The Bend Classic, a sprint event at The Bend.

“There will be thousands of people travelling from interstate and locals enjoying the continuing aspects of the festival like the Shannons Adelaide Rally and street parties.

“They can come by and stay at the park on their way to Adelaide or come up for the day to spectate or participate in the sprint. We hope the event will be supported and if we can play a role we will relish that opportunity.”
